She abandoned the console for a cause, and how! Mumbai-based DJ and reality show artist, Jenny D, chose to fight a cause in a unique way by posing nude for a print campaign that demands reservation for women in the education and employment sector.
The shoot conceptualized by Jenny and fashion photographer Vickky Idnaani is a part of an awareness campaign that was kick-started by a Mumbai-based NGO, Citizens Action Forum, on Independence Day, titled 'Are women in India really independent?'
This has created a furore among city DJs, event organizers and Pramod Muthalik, chief of a religious organization. According to sources, members of Pramod's organization have threatened to blacken Jenny's face and impose a ban on her in discos and pubs in the city. Jenny, however, who posed for the campaign with the tricolour just covering her private parts, says that the campaign was designed to raise awareness, and not to grab eyeballs. When BT asked Jenny whether posing nude was justified, she shot back, saying, "What does it look like to you? It's not as if I wasn't wearing anything. I am not completely nude. In fact, I have been getting a good response from all over the country. I have absolutely no regrets about doing this campaign. When you attempt to do something like this, you are bound to face criticism."
And what were her parents' reactions to the campaign? "They were shocked initially but then I explained the need for it," she says.
