Lakshmi Rai, the suave actor best known for her roles in year 2011s biggest hits Kanchana and Mankatha celebrated her 31st birthday on the 5th of May, 2012.

Born in Belgaum, Karnataka, the sexy model turned actor made her cinematic debut with a Tamil film 'Karka Kasadara'. She soon started working in all the four southern languages and predominantly appeared in Malayalam films like Annan Thambi (2008), 2 Harihar Nagar (2009), Chattambinadu (2009), Evidam Swargamanu (2009) and Arabiyum, Ottakavum, P. Madhavan Nairum (2011) that helped her gain the success and fame to establish herself in the industry.

Lakshmi Rai was recently roped in to play a pivotal role in A.L Vijay's Thandavam alongside Vikram, Anushka and Amy Jackson. She has also signed up a Bollywood project with Himesh Reshammiya, a Telugu film with Nandamuri Balakrishna and the Kannada remake of Kanchana opposite Upendra.

Celebs Factory wishes the pretty actress a happy birthday and a very prosperous year ahead.

Looks like Upendra is headed for a make-over. If his actress-wife Priyanka has her way, Uppi will soon be seen in a new avatar in her first directorial.

"People often ask me how Uppi is as a person. Through my film, which will revolve around life and relationships, I intend to bring out his other side. He is often cast as the rough and tough guy but I want to show him as a romantic. Uppi seems to be impressed with the characterization and the story. But he will take a call only after I give him the final reading," she says.

Whether Uppi will act or not, his involvement is a given at every stage. "I am not all that much for escapist cinema and want to make one that is realistic and relatable. As I am trying to do something new, Uppi's inputs will be required at every stage. He will be helping me with the translation of the script from English to Kannada and the dialogues of course," she adds.

More than anything he is a great source of moral support she feels. "He was the one who gave me the confidence to direct. He felt only that way would the film shape up the way I would have conceptualized it while writing it."

Priyanka will also be turning producer with this film. Will she multi task by acting in it as well? "Not this time. And somehow I have a feeling that direction will give me greater satisfaction."

The film is likely to go on floors in April. "As my children have their summer break around that time, I can concentrate on the film. If all goes well we should start filming in April with Uppi in the lead," concludes a hopeful Priyanka.

The Upendra-Catherine-Soundarya starrer Godfather is briskly underway. The film, which is already the talk of the town, has A R Rahman composing his original tunes for the first time in Kannada. And this he’s doing for a whopping amount of Rs 1.5 crore, which is said to be half of what he charges for Tamil films.

“Rahman, who has had early associations with Sandalwood as a keyboardist, was coaxed to sign this project by long time associate and friend PC Sreeram. The Chennai-based cinematographer has previously worked with him in the Tamil original Varalaaru and also in films like Maymadham and Alai Payuthey. He convinced Rahman,” says a source close to the unit.

Producer K Manju doesn’t deny the fact either. “Yes, the figures are in three digits, I wouldn’t like to disclose the exact amount, but having him as part of my film is worth it all. I’m going to ensure that this film rocks the Kannada film industry as far as the music is concerned,” says he.

Manju, quite excitedly, also talks about the plans for the soundtrack. “We’re going to have the best lyricists in the state writing the seven songs in the soundtrack. These will include directors Prem and Yogaraj Bhat, music director-lyricists Hamsalekha and K Kalyan, lyricist Kaviraj and one song will be written by Upendra himself.”

Quiz him on whether Upendra, whose current song from Jogaiah has become such a huge hit, will sing any number, and he says, “I am not sure about that, we haven’t thought about it. But, what I have requested Rahman is to lend his voice to one of the tracks in the film. I’m hoping he agrees to that.”

Lead actor Upendra has said that he’s keen in seeing how the Oscar-winning music director composes the soundtrack and has even expressed that he will be closely involved with that. Looks like this soundtrack is going to be something to watch out for!

AsinVaralaru, the tamil film directed by K S Ravikumar that had Ajith in the lead role is being remade in Kannada.

When questioned Asin about the news that She is playing the same role that she did in Varalaru, she said,” There is news that Upendra is remaking the Tamil film Varalaru in Kannada. I don’t know whether this is a rumor or truth. Nobody has contacted me with regards to this. There is news that I have acted in a kissing scene in the Hindi film Ready which has Salman Khan in the lead role. There is no truth in this news also. There is no such sequence in this film. After this I am pairing with Akshay Kumar in the Hindi film House Full 2."

She also added that she would be acting in some more Hindi films and that talks were going on with regard to this. When questioned about returning back to Tamil films after Kaavalan, She giggled saying "If I get good stories, I will definitely act in Tamil films. Currently I am giving importance to commercial stories. I also want to have variety in the roles that I enact in different stories.”
