At last night’s Tony Awards, Catherine Zeta-Jones made her first appearance since going public with her on-going battle against Bipolar II disorder in April.

The 41-year-old Welsh actress, handed out two trophies including one to Mark Rylance for best actor in a leading role in a play (Jerusalem) and another to Norbert Leo Butz for the musical Catch Me If You Can.

Zeta-Jones, mother of two and wife to actor Michael Douglas, has had a difficult year as she has also recently dealt with her husband’s own fight against stage-four throat cancer. However, things seem to be on the up and up.

According to Douglas, his wife has numerous projects in the works, including the upcoming film “Rock of Ages,” which also co-stars Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige and Alec Baldwin.

Rock of Ages is scheduled to hit theaters June of 2012.

Check out the Oscar winning actress, decked out in a red sequined Elie Saab gown.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, who earlier this year had to deal with Bipolar II disorder, didn't admit her struggle to her spouse, Michael Douglas who was suffering with throat cancer, but is now getting better.

Michael said: "She's doing fine. She's been back working on her movie in Louisiana and she's feeling great. Catherine's a very strong woman and she's had a lot to deal with. She was so supportive and caring of me that she couldn't tell me or anyone else she was having a tough time herself. She's not the type of person to complain she's depressed when her husband is fighting cancer."

Michael underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy in a bid to beat cancer and says he was pleased with how well Dylan, 10, and eight-year-old Carys - his children with Catherine - coped with his treatment, thinking the equipment it required was "cool" and similar to that seen in the Star Wars movie series.

He told Britain's OK! magazine: "They saw me getting radiation treatment and they thought it was like Star Wars. They thought it was the coolest thing they've ever seen with all the machines and the masks they put on your face. So in that way, I think you take the fear out of it. To be honest, kids are pretty resilient."

Actor Michael Douglas and Catherina Zeta-Jones are shielding their two young children from the actress' struggle with bipolar disorder because they have only just come to terms with their father's recent cancer battle.

The " Wall Street" actor underwent intensive treatment last summer after being diagnosed with stage four throat cancer, reports said.

He beat the disease in January but the Hollywood couple's personal lives took another hit in April when the Chicago beauty was found to suffer from bipolar.

Doctors diagnosed the condition after Zeta-Jones checked into a mental health clinic to treat depression, brought on by the stress of her husband's battle.

The stars, who explained all about Douglas' cancer fight to Dylan, 10, and Carys, 8, have chosen not to burden their kids with their mother's issues so soon although Douglas worries they will find out through gossip at school.

"No, they don't know yet. We gotta give them a chance, they're just getting over the other issues," said Douglas.
