Emile Jerome and Maria Susairaj have been convicted of murdering Neeraj Grover. Emile is serving a 10-year prison term for ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’. Maria has been released from prison since she has already served three years for criminal conspiracy during trial.
Both Maria and Jerome claim that the forthcoming Ram Gopal Varma film (Not a Love Story) cannot be released without their consent since it is based on the Neeraj Grover murder case.
Varma says that he would neither show the film to them nor take their consent as his film is just inspired from the case.
According to the legal notice, Jerome wants Varma to get his approval before the film’s release. Maria has made a similar demand in her legal notice that was sent to Varma two days ago.
The film starring Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehi in pivotal roles, releases on August 19.
Varma adds that though the central plot of the film is similar to the case, it is just ‘inspired’ from the case and hence has legal responsibilities to neither Jerome nor Maria.
“My heroine is not a South Indian actress and her fiancee is not in Navy as in real case. Also, the film is just an interpretation of what could have happened and not a reporting on what actually happened. No one was there to know what the reality is. This is not their story and I am not showing the film to either of them," he said.

Mahie says that she finds shooting for intimate scenes difficult and awkward.
"I feel awkward doing these scenes and it's not very easy because the entire crew is there. But I feel that it's like any other emotion and one has to depict it. The kind of cinema I am doing is realistic and so this is also a part of it," said Mahie in an interview.
Asked what goes on in her mind while doing intimate scenes, she said: "The only thing in your mind is that you have to deliver your best. It shouldn't look artificial at all." After making an impressive start with Anurag Kashyap's "Dev D" in 2009, Mahie did the offbeat "Gulal" and also had a small part in last year's super hit cop drama "Dabangg".
In the film 'Not A Love Story' the 27-year-old had to do love-making scenes with co-star Deepak Dobriyal. She was right up for it and said that director Ram Gopal Varma apologized for retakes on one such intimate scene until it was shot right as required.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma firmly refused to show his soon-to-be released movie Not A Love Story, based on the gruesome murder of Neeraj Grover, to Kannada actress Maria Susairaj, who recently walked free in the case after serving three years behind the bars.
Directed by Varma,Not a Love Story is a crime thriller, said to be inspired by the television executive's killing in 2008.
Maria, who was found guilty of disposing the body of Grover along with her fiance Emile Jerome, had yesterday sent a legal notice to Varma saying that he did not have right to release a film based on her life without her consent.
However, RGV has categorically refused to show her the film.
"I will not show my film to Maria as I have repeatedly said that my film is just inspired by the incident and not completely based on her. There are so many differences in the film from the real life incident," Varma said.
"My heroine is not a South Indian actress and her fiancee is not in Navy as in real case. Also, the film is just an interpretation of what could have happened and not a reporting on what actually happened. No one was there to know what the reality is. This is not her story and I am not showing the film to her," he said.
Meanwhile, Maria's lawyer, Sherif Sheikh, told PTI, "We have asked him to show the film before the release. If he does not we will file a suit and the court will decide whether the movie can be released or not."
Grover was stabbed to death by Jerome at Maria's flat here on May 7, 2008 following a fight. The duo had then allegedly chopped his body into pieces and disposed it off at Manor jungles on the city outskirts.
The film starring Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehi in pivotal roles, releases on August 19.
Earlier, Varma had expressed his desire to cast Maria in his next film saying that the Kannada actress has been absolved of murder charges in the murder case.
"Maria Susairaj wanted to become famous as an actress and she became famous as a murderess... If things went well it could have been a Rangeela for her. Now that she has been released I want to sign Maria Susairaj for a film," Varma had written on Twitter, on July 1.
The film is said to be based on the infamous Neeraj Grover murder case which convicted Maria Susiaraj and her then fiancé Emile Jerome to three years and seven years of imprisonment respectively.
The film starring Mahie Gill and Deepak Dobriyal has already received a lot of flak from all sections of the society.
Slated for an August release, the film’s director has filed a caveat in court to ensure that his controversial film is not stalled by any of the concerned parties going to court to stay the release of his film.
Speaking to a daily, Neeraj’s mother, Neelam Grover, said,
Neeraj`s father, Amar Nath Grover, added, "As a father I just want that my son`s image should not be tarnished. I want RGV to make a trust in Neeraj`s name, either in Mumbai or Kanpur. He should donate a part of his earnings from the film to the trust."

Mahie, who was required to deliver some hard-core lovemaking scenes in Ram Gopal Varma’s imminent movie, in a recent one-to-one, expressed that doing intimate scenes is not a big deal for her.
"The intimate scenes were no big deal. Once you get into the skin of the character, it is all natural and acceptable. We are all actors after all!”
"Ramu was more embarrassed than me," says Mahie.

Apparently, throughout the shoot, the director kept on apologizing to Mahie for making her do the intimate scenes over and over again until he got it right.
Talking about RGV’s discomfort while shooting the lovemaking scenes, Mahie said, “Ramu was more embarrassed than I was. I remember once he even left the sets. He kept apologizing to me and I had to keep reassuring him that it was okay.”
The actress has portrayed her character so well in the movie, that director RGV seems to be quite impressed with her.
Showering praises on Mahie, Ramu said, "She understood the script so well. I felt odd that I had to put a girl in such a situation. There were retakes, too. And that felt even more awkward.”
RGV's ‘Not A Love Story’ featuring Deepak Dobriyal, Ajay Gehi and Mahie Gill in lead roles is based on the 2008 murder case of TV executive Neeraj Grover.
While shooting for Ram Gopal Varma's Not a Love Story based on Neeraj Grover's murder, RGV sends an sms to his lead actress apologising, for making her enact intense love scenes in the film
What on earth could've prompted a brazen unabashedly abrasive man like, Ram Gopal Varma to send an apology via SMS to his Not A Love Story leading lady Mahie Gill?
Acting uncharacteristically, Ramu sent the actress a text message saying sorry after she had to perform intense love-making sequences with Deepak Dobriyal.
Apparently the love scenes between the two were so intense and torrid that Ramu left the sets and allowed an assistant to be present until the two actors finished their libidinous business.
Recalling the incident, Mahie (who seems to have a very different opinion of Ramu from what he projects) laughed, "Ramuji was very apologetic about the love making sequences.I had to reassure him it was fine. Deepak and I were just doing our job. But Ramuji was really disturbed, almost as if he was subjecting a close relative a daughter or a sister to an uncomfortable situation. After Deepak and I finished the love scene, he sent me a message saying sorry."
For a filmmaker who likes to be known as a ladies' man and has apparently had a string of romantic involvements, it comes as a surprise to know how shy he is of love-making sequences.
Mahie maintained, "I did enquire about the torrid scenes. He explained to me that the nature of the relationship between the girl and the guy who together kill her former lover was so desperate and passionate that the impact couldn't be achieved without the acute intensity onscreen."
She asserted that she had never done skin show before. But came to terms with Ramu's requirement. "I think this was the first time he was directing love-making scenes.I was really surprised at how shy he was. Contrary to his image he is quiet, withdrawn and a shy person. Certainly no ladies' man,"she said.
We asked Ramu about the kissing scenes in his movie, he chuckled. "Maybe I've just grown up. Jokes apart, the intensity of the emotions between the couple is very high in the movie. There are three long kissing scenes between Deepak Dobriyal and Mahie Gill. I have to confess I've never had couples kissing in my films before except a fleeting kiss between Abhishek Bachchan and Antara Mali in Naach."
Taking about this film, he mentioned, "It was necessary for me to show that such a thing happened (the murder) in Not Love Story because of uncontrollable emotions.
I firmly believe no one is intrinsically bad. It's just circumstances that make them do some irrational things and then they get deeper and deeper into the mess."
Mahie Gill doesn't deny that she is playing the character of Maria Susairaj. "But we've changed the character quite a bit. Maria was from Bangalore.
But my character is a Punjabi girl. We have shown how one moment of weakness and untruth actually destroyed her life and made her commit that murder," added the director.
