The estranged husband of Taylor Armstrong was discovered in his bedroom at his home on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles on the night of August 15, after an apparent suicide.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told UsMagazine.com the 47-year-old man was "found dead from an apparent hanging in a residence on Mulholland Drive".
Taylor - who had five-year-old daughter Kennedy with Russell - filed for divorce from him last year after six years of marriage.
The couples struggles were aired on the Bravo reality TV show - and earlier this month the 40-year-old beauty explained it had been an "emotional" year.
She said: "Unfortunately for me this year, there were a lot more tears, a lot more pain. It's been such an emotional ride this year."
But Russell's ex-wife Barbara Frederickson - who he had 13-year-old son Aiden with - blames Taylor for the reality star's plight.
She told RadarOnline.com: "I don't care for her at all. I think she's the reason for this. "She's not who she says she is and I told him to please be careful with this woman... I warned him! She's bad news and she drove him into this."
