Hansika has a lot of reasons to be happy as her superhit Tamil movie, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, saw a Telugu dubbed release by the name OKOK and her upcoming release with Arya, Settai, had its teaser launch along with Mugamoodi.

The response to both OKOK and the teaser of Settai has pleased the pretty actor and she has thanked her fans for accepting her films.

Hansika is currently busy with Denikaina Ready in Telugu, Settai, Vaalu, Vettai Mannan and Singam 2 in Tamil.

Vaalu, her film with STR, will also be having a single track launch soon.

Good times for Hansika.

Arya has bought a swanking new flat located in Greams Road, Chennai and had invited his close friends from the film fraternity for the house warming ceremony.

Surprisingly, Nayantara was present and she was the person to light the auspicious Kuthuvilakku in the flat. Others present include Vishal and Udhayanidhi Stalin.

It's only the second time that Nayantara is visiting Chennai after her much-publicized breakup with Prabhudeva happened. It's also notable that Nayantara is actively reading scripts these days in an effort to attain what she had left behind.

Director Rajesh who has Jiiva starrer Siva Manasule Shakthi and Arya starrer Boss Engira Bhaaskaran in his filmography is well known for roping in stars for a guest role in his films.

Rajesh's earlier films SMS had Arya and Boss Engira Bhaaskaran had Jiiva in cameos respectively and now this penchant to get in some of the top stars in the industry for cameo has become an expectation from the director.

For Director Rajesh's Oru Kal Oru Kannadi that is to mark the debut of producer Udayanidhi Stalin as hero, Rajesh has Andrea, Sneha and Arya to appear in cameo roles.

The film’s audio launch is scheduled to take place later this month and the film’s release date is expected to be announced formally soon.

Reports from the tinsel town say that Karthi’s upcoming flick to be directed by M Rajesh has been titled All in All Azhagu Raja.

Karthi is currently busy completing Saguni, directed by debutant Shankar Dayal and will then shift his focus to an untitled film opposite Anushka that Suraaj is to wield the megaphone for.

Detailed reports about M Rajesh’s project are expected once the work on Oru Kal Oru Kannadi is completed launching his producer Udhayanidhi Stalin as the lead opposite Hansika.

The followers of Buddhism have raised objections towards 7am Arivu over the facts provided about the monk 'Bodhi Dharma' in the movie.

Despite being a well-made science fiction film in the Tamil film industry, Surya's 7am Arivu has sparked a controversy regarding the portrayal of Bodhi Dharma, a Pallava prince who migrated to China and became the Shaolin master.

Buddhist Teacher Babu T Raghu has said that the depiction of Bodhi Dharma in 7am Arivu is inaccurate. For an instance, the monk travelled to China, when he was 150 yearsold but in the recently released film, it has been portrayed, as if he left Kanchipuram at his young age with six-pack abs. He further claims that it is an insult to their community and has objected those scenes.

The Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary professor Bikku Bodhi Bala says that it is believed that Bodhi Dharma was one of the seven monks, who left to China from Tamil Nadu between the 2nd and 13th century. He, however refuses A.R Murgadoss' portrayal of the Bodhi Dharma's death in 7am Arivu as the monk breathed his last in Tamil Nadu after being resurrected from death in China.

Meanwhile, historians claim that Bodhi Dharma left Kanchipuram to propagate Buddhism and that he was known only for his expertise in martial arts and not for any skills on medical science scrutinizing 7am Arivu that glorifies the monk as a Tamilian without researching his contribution to the community.

All in all, irrespective of whether Bodhi Dharma's depiction is accurate or false, the audience have loved Suriya's performance as the monk in the first twenty minutes of 7am Arivu.

Noted director Thangar Bachan has lauded 7am Arivu so much that he has penned an open letter to Red Giant Movies Udhayanidhi Stalin for producing the film.

Thangar Bachan in his letter had said that only few films bring honor to Tamilians and 7am Arivu is one among them.

According to the director, the film has made every Tamilian sit up and take notice of their glorious past.

Thangar Bachan, on the discussion about the film’s success, said that the collections at the box office, are largely the concern of the people who are going to benefit from the profits that is the producers and distributors and it is not for the movie buffs who only need to enjoy the film.

Kollywood saw a massive clash between two big movies that were released during Diwali. One was the much-hyped AR Murugadoss’s 7am Arivu and the other, Jeyam Raja’s Velayudham.

With two popular heroes of Kollywood — Suriya and Vijay — battling it out on this festive occasion, it was rather surprising to learn who actually won the hearts of the masses this time.

7aam Arivu, produced by Udayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Films, saw massive publicity that ran for nearly a month before its release. Expectations too were soaring high for this film as the director who gave a runaway hit like Ghajini (both in Hindi and Tamil) was expected to deliver triple the success for this one.

Adding to the hype was Suriya’s role as Bodhidharma (a Buddhist monk) and Shruti Haasan's debut in Tamil cinema.

On the other hand, Vijay’s Velayudham was promoted at a mediocre scale in and around Tamil Nadu. With Vijay playing the role of a super-hero for the first time in his career, this one too created a lot of buzz before its release.

However, post the release, Velayudham’s stupendous victory has come as a rather surprising one. With critics and audiences voting for Vijay’s super-hero flick over Suriya’s 7am Arivu, the results have proved to be a shocker.

What really turned the tables?

“Before the release of these two movies, it seemed clear that 7am Arivu would win over Velayudham. The film’s massive promotional activities, claiming it as ‘something unseen’, proved to be a wrong tactic, once the film was released. With a lot of commercial elements in the film and scripting errors, people were let down by the Suriya-Murugadoss’s combination,” reports the source.

As a matter of fact, Velayudham which was released in comparatively lesser number of theatres across the country, has raked in more than 7aam Arivu in the first week of its theatrical release.

“Velayudham was promoted as an out-and-out commercial entertainer and did surprise the audiences when it was released. Though it had lesser publicity compared to the former, it has proven to be the ultimate winner. And while both the movies enjoyed a massive opening, the rather critical reviews let 7am Arivu down,” adds the source.

For films that rely only on promotional activities, the clear win of Velayudham proves to be a resounding lesson.

Though 7 Aum Arivu has been receiving mixed reactions from critics, director A R Murugadoss, producer Udhayanidhi Stalin and actor Suriya are flying high for they have won the admiration of Super Star Rajnikanth.

On Wednesday, a special screening of the movie was organised for Rajnikanth in Chennai.

Impressed watching the movie, Rajnikanth had reportedly appreciated Suriya for playing the lead roles well.

Rajnikanth said Suriya has put up an excellent performance. Udhayanidhi Stalin too has tweeted that Rajnikanth’s appreciation has made him happy.

Film director A R Murugadoss had earlier said that neither Suriya nor he could make a film like 7aam Arivu for the next five years.

Elaborating on it, the director said that there was so much of hard work involved in the making of 7aam Arivu and they cannot think of working so hard at least for another five years.

A R Murugadoss had three scripts ready for Suriya and it was the star that chose the 7aam Arivu script because he wanted to reach the pinnacle with his acting.

7aam Arivu is expected to further up actor Suriya’s already soaring star status when it is released this Diwali.

Suriya's upcoming film of director A.R. Murugadoss with Shruti Hassan opposite him is nearing the finish line and has been creating news nearing its audio launch touted to be one of the most awaited films of the year.

Surya apparently plays a circus acrobat in the film and has worked very hard to pull off this difficult role.

The crew of the film were so dazzled with the actor's dizzying acrobatics performed for the filma and were very impressed that the makers begged him to show off some of his moves to the audience at the audio launch for the film which is to be held this month. Being the good sport that he is, Suriya has agreed.

This spectacular event is to take place at Nehru stadium and Kalaignar TV has obtained the broadcasting rights. Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies is producing the film. Therefore the trailer for his Oru Kal Oru Kannadi will also be released simultaneously.

Not only Tamil cinema fans but even folks in Bollywood and the Telugu film industry are counting off the days to its release as its director A.R. Murugadoss had turned down many Bollywood and Tollywood projects to concentrate on 7am Arivu.

The director's confidence in his film and Suriya is immense and the whole world awaits to see it!

The first look of Suriya's 7am Arivu is out and features the actor as a Buddhist monk, which is one of the roles he plays in the film.

Though the shooting has been on for more than a year now, the movie - which is directed by A R Murugadoss and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin - has been kept under tight wraps, with not even a single still released to the media.

"It was a strategy by the makers to keep all visual material away from the media as they did not want anything revealed about the subject," said a source, adding, "And now, gauging by the response the poster has got, it seems to have paid off."

The source added, "This look as a Buddhist monk is sported by Suriya only in the first 20 minutes of the film. He looks completely different after that. The material, in which he will be seen with the leading lady of the film Shruti Haasan, will be released later, perhaps sometime close to the audio launch of the film."

When director A R Murugadoss was contacted, he said, "We wanted to ensure that 7am Arivu looked much better than Ghajini, our previous film together, and so we worked hard on the look for the film."

Next up for the director is a film with Vijay, which he says will commence in October once 7am Arivu hits screens.

Udayanidhi Stalin is always bombarded with the same set of questions ever since he began 7aam Arivu.

It is about the film’s audio launch and release date. The producer, who will also be making his debut as hero with Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, has said OK OK’s trailer will come out with 7aam Arivu.

The producer-actor knows that 7aam Arivu is going to create a great impact on the audience and feels that it would be the right film to carry the trailer of OK OK, so that it can reach the maximum number of movie buffs. Well, one more reason to expect the Suriya and Shruti Haasan starrer 7aam Arivu’s release.

Where Andrea goes, controversy seems to follow. No sooner had she landed a coveted part in Rajesh directed OKOK for Udayanidhi, than she found herself embroiled in a huge brouhaha.

The shoot was scheduled to take place in ECR. Andrea had brought in a makeup artiste from Mumbai. But apparently the union for makeup artistes refused to give her a card and demanded that she leave the set at once, and allow one of the regulars to do the job.

Andrea however stood by her artiste but it did not help. The shoot was delayed by four hours and was resumed only when the make up artiste in question had left the set.

Looks like Udayanidhi Stalin has made up his mind on his new-found profession. To a question if he would continue acting after Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, Udayanidhi Stalin has said that he will continue to don the greasepaint even if OK OK turns out to be a flop!

The producer, who will be turning into a hero in OK OK directed by Rajesh, says that he is here to stay. Apart from producing and distributing movies, he will also act in films.

Udayanidhi has said that OK OK is progressing well and nearly 60 percent of the shooting is over. He added that film will hit the screens by the end of this year.

Even before her Engeyum Kadhal released, Hansika Motwani was signed up for Mapillai opposite Dhanush directed by Suraj. Mapillai produced by Sun Pictures was the remake of Superstar Rajinikanth's yesteryear film of the same name.

Though Hansika has done a few movies in Telugu as the lead, she became more famous and managed to steal the hearts of Tamil youngsters as well after the photos from Engeyum Kadhal were officially released by AGS and Prabhu Deva.

Along with Tapasee, who also paired with Dhanush in Aadukalam, Hansika became one of the most preferred actresses for Tamil movie producers.

Actor Jayam Ravi, in a recent interview, mentioned how much fun it was to work with her during the shooting of Engeyum Kadhal.

Her career is confirmed for success after she was signed opposite Udhayanidhi Stalin in Red Giant Movies' Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (OKOK) directed by Rajesh (of Siva Manasula Sakthi and Boss Engira Baskaran fame). It is heard that other actresses such as Trisha and Tamannaah who were in the race for the role in OKOK are quite jealous of Hansika!

Hansika’s performance in Engeyum Kadhal has been loved by many, so we should see more of her in Kollywood in the days to come.

Udhayanidhi Stalin who has tasted instant and consecutive successes as a producer and a distributor spills out the ‘secret formula’ when questioned how he manages it.

He said that "I always accept to produce or distribute movies that can be watched by the whole families together without feeling awkward".

I follow a simple formula before committing any project. I don’t prefer having any vulgarity in my films either visually or in dialogues uttered by the cast. My choice is always to make films which can be watched and enjoyed by entire family.” he added.

When asked about the progress of OKOK he said that it is shaping out well and all he has done is to follow director Rajesh’s instructions to the T. He also said that he is immensely thankful to Suriya and Arya for the support they have shown him all the while. We hope Udhayanidhi tastes success as an actor too!

Udayanidhi Stalin, the distributor of Ko, has said that some people are very upset about Ko’s success. He added that he feels very sorry for them and wished them luck next time. Though the producer-distributor-actor did not disclose the names of all those whom he thinks are upset about Ko’s success, there are strong speculations about whom he is referring to.

Sources say that Udayanidhi has referred to Silambarasan as he was the first choice of director KV Anand to play the lead role but it went to Jiiva following some differences.

Meanwhile, the film is being appreciated by movie buffs all over the world and has already been declared a hit.

Making Siva Manasula Sakthi with Jiiva and Boss Engira Bhaskaran with Arya has given director M. Rajesh the confidence to launch producer Udhayanidhi Stalin in his third film, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi. So, how does Rajesh rate Udhayanidhi as an actor? “We mutually agreed to do a 20-day workshop-cum-rehearsal where Udhayanidhi was put through the paces as an actor. He really put in a lot of hard work to get his act together. It was only after he was convinced about his performance that we went for the first schedule,” says Rajesh. Hansika Motwani is paired with Udhayanidhi in this flick. And, music director Harris Jayaraj has already composed two of the five songs for the film, says Rajesh.

Learning curve
Her roles in the recent Muthukku Muthaga and Nanjupuram have got Monika the right kind of attention from many filmmakers. After almost 20 films as a child artiste, Monika graduated to mature roles, starting with Azhagi. This was followed by Bhagavathi, Sandakozhi and other films. With Agaradhi and Varnam scheduled for release soon, Monika is as busy as ever. “I have Naran in Tamil and Happy Husbands (remake of the Hindi No Entry, where she essays Esha Deol's role) in Kannada, while shooting is on for Kannigapuram Sandippil,” says Monika, who considers herself lucky to have played a variety of roles.

Action-filled debut
Popular stunt master ‘Fefsi' Vijayan's maiden directorial venture in Tamil, Markandeyan, follows his earlier efforts in four Kannada and two Telugu films. In this film, Vijayan introduces his son Sabarish as hero. He has undergone a year's training in Thai boxing in Thailand, and also learnt dancing and acting to prepare for the role. Vijayan also introduces popular Thai model Pinky from Bangkok, along with Telugu girl Nivedita in this film. In keeping with the background of the director, the screenplay has a lot of action, besides romance. Sundar C Babu has composed the music.

Crossover appeal
When most Tamil films seem to have an audience in Andhra, can the reverse be far off? The Telugu blockbuster Magadheera is being made into Tamil, ostensibly with a view to gauging the acceptance of Chiranjeevi's son Ram Charan Teja among Tamil film audiences. Producer Allu Aravind's last outing in Tamil was Mappillai with Rajinikanth and Amala, almost 21 years ago. Chiranjeevi has chosen to make a few changes in the film, titled Maaveeran, to suit Tamil audiences. Scenes involving the lead pair were recently shot in Chennai, Pollachi, Visakhapatnam and adjoining areas. A song featuring Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi and Mumaith Khan was shot at Chennai Harbour with over 500 dancers. The song has been penned by Vaali and rendered by Ranjith and Janaki.

Mollywood calling
Very rarely do established Tamil producers venture into Malayalam films, as compared to making Telugu or Kannada films. Now, Aascar Films' V. Ravichandran, whose recent successes include Dasavatharam and Vaaranam Aayiram, has ventured into Mollywood with director Sunil's 15th film, Lucky Jokers. It is reportedly a full-length comedy with a whole host of Malayalam actors. Ajmal, familiar to Tamil audiences, plays an important role. However, the producers are not dubbing the film in Tamil, as they feel the nuances will be lost. They are doing a Hindi version, though!
