If there’s one thing that actress Bipasha Basu never shies or tires talking of, then it’s a noble cause. And working towards saving the environment and protecting nature is an issue that’s rather close to the sexy star’s heart. “And I think that it should be a topic close to everyone’s heart,” says the B-Town star.

“Our nature and environment are things that we so take for granted. But imagine a day without something as simple as a tree and you’ll understand what I’m talking about,” she adds. In fact, Bipasha points out that one need not even join an NGO or any organisation to do their bit towards it.

“You don’t need to be affiliated to any institution to do a good deed. All you need is the intention to do it. I think simple things like saving water, electricity, paper, planting a sapling... all of it go a long way in protecting the environment,” she says.

“Besides, I think, we also owe it to our future generations to give them a healthy environment conducive to healthy growth of mind, body and spirit,” adds Basu. “But I think that today there’s more awareness amongst youngsters as compared to their elders, which is heartening. Silambarasan’s Poda Podi is shaping up silently without much fanfare, say insiders. This project is taking a long time to complete, because of the hero’s commitments to other projects.

Poda Podi will mark the entry of Varalakshmi, daughter of Sarath Kumar, into the film industry. Varalakshmi is an accomplished singer and dancer and incidentally in this film her role is dance-oriented too.

Surprisingly, there is another heroine who will be seen in films after a long long time. It is none other than Shobana. Now, we all know that she is a danseuse par excellence and has given some astounding performances on stage. She will be playing Varalakshmi’s dance guru in Poda Podi.

The makers want a huge star cast with mass appeal, so insiders feel that one of the top stars like Vijay, Ajith, Vikram, or Suriya will be approached. But one thing is for sure; currently every hero and heroine worth his or her salt is dying to work with Vetri Maaran. It would be interesting to see the lucky two who will snag the parts.

llu Arjun has always yearned to work with Kollywood filmmakers as he is impressed with their brilliant style of filmmaking. He has also been discussing more scripts with A-league moviemakers from Kodambakkam that includes Gautham Menon, Vishnuvardhan, etc. He has always had a great desire to work with filmmaker Bala as his films dubbed in Telugu rock in Andhra Pradesh, winning critical acclaims and spinning good collections for the producers as well.

Allu Arjun was astonished over the magnetizing teasers of ‘Vaadu Veedu’ (Telugu version of ‘Avan Ivan) that was screened during the audio launch of the film. Impressed with the entire team, Allu Arjun was high on praises for them. He made his request to Bala saying that he must make direct Telugu films and he is very keen on working with him.

Adding more, he said, “I am sure, soon after the film’s release, Vishal will get more offers in Telugu. Arya has been a good friend over the years and we share a good rapport.”

This appears to be the season of betrothals. First it was Karthi and now Shakthi, son of producer/director P Vasu who is all set to get hitched. Shakthi will get betrothed to Smrithi, a girl of his choice, on Monday the 6th June 2011 at Hotel Park Sheraton. Smrithi is a B.Com graduate from Stella Maris College, Chennai. Tamannah Bhatia seems to dropped off the radar in K’town of late? Though rumour mongers may attribute diverse reasons for her disappearance from the Tamil scene, the actress opened up in an exclusive chat.

“Where could I have gone? My next Tamil flick Vengai, with Dhanush is ready for its release and Hari sir has given me a beautiful role in the movie. I play a simple-looking college girl from a small town. It’s a typical mass entertainer”.

The Sirutthai girl says her call sheet diary is full for the entire year with Tollywood movies. “It is just that I got busy with Telugu films. I am happy with my recent film, 100% Love with Naga Chaitanya, which was a simple love story with lots of interesting and cute twists. My next film, Badrinath with Allu Arjun is also wrapped and will soon hit the cinema halls”, she adds.

Looking at the sizzling promo stills, one wonders whether Tamannah was game for a skin show in T’town. “Oh no,” she denies any such notion and continues, “The movie is set against a temple backdrop and Allu Arjun plays an Indian Samurai. It is just the song sequences where I wear glam outfits.”

According to sources, the movie has set new records at the box-office in Kerala. ‘Bunny’ as Allu Arjun’s friends call him, enjoys a big market in God’s own country.

The Malayalam dubbing rights are said to have been sold for a record breaking 1.10 crore rupees and the movie is being released in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam simultaneously.

Is she dubbing her own voice like she did for 100% Love? “Dubbing my voice in Telugu or Tamil is a time-consuming process since I take a long time to master the language spoken in each film. So, when there’s a lineup of movies, I can’t do justice to each one.”

Even before its commencement, Rachcha, her next flick with Ram Charan Teja, has generated a lot of buzz in tinsel town. Grapevine has it that Tamannah is going to expose her svelte bod to the hilt by sporting a bikini in Rachcha. Industry pundits add that Ram Charan will be flaunting an 8-pack physique. X Men: First Class is all set for its worldwide release it seems. Early screenings have critics raving about the film. It has been reported that the film is hugely entertaining and could well be the best film of the franchise.

Given that the first three are considered by many as the finest among the superhero flicks, this is high praise indeed for the next installment of the X Men saga.

This film is a prequel and explores the origins of Professor X and Magneto way back to the days when they were simply Charles and Eric. A stellar cast consisting of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, January Jones, and Rose Byrne are said to have turned in impressive performances. Now we simply cannot wait to see it!

Hansika is shooting for OKOK in Madurai. En route to her hotel, she witnessed a man lying by the side of a road. He had met with a bike accident and was bleeding heavily but there was no one to help. Her driver also drove right on, but the actress made him turn the car back.

One of the pedestrians was asked to telephone the nearest hospital. Hansika waited till the ambulance arrived on the scene. Her mother being a doctor went with the victim in the ambulance while Hansika followed them in her car.

Doctors treated the patient at once and only on being informed that his condition was stable, did Hansika leave. Her timely help saved the man’s life as he had already lost a lot of blood and would have surely died without medical aid. It is commendable what she did today. Good citizens of this country would do well to follow her example and help those in need. Truly Hansika is a heroine in real life as well.

No sooner had the affair between Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara blossomed, than it became the focus of public attention. Even the minutest details of their problems were relentlessly published in many newspapers.

Director Kulandai Velappan along with producer Kamal Nayan were waiting for the release of their maiden venture Aanmai Thavarael until last friday June the 5th. The movie that was recently censored with a UA certificate won appreciation of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) officials and also from its audience who witnessed the crime.

Kulandai Velappan says, ‘Though it is my maiden venture, I ensured that it should not be a cliched commercial film. I chose to work on a script based on the sensitive issues that affects our society. At a time, when kidnapping of children is hogging the headlines, this movie talks about the same. Though India is the seventh largest country in the world, It is eighth most unsafe place to live. This propelled me to make a script and we were elated when the Censor officials gave us a pat after watching the movie’.

The movie scenes shift from Chennai to Goa and it is not just loaded with a message but also has commercial elements including romance and comedy.

‘A news report of couple of girls who went missing from Andhra Pradesh and rescued from Dubai inspired me to do the story,’ he adds.

‘I thank my producer who gave me the required liberty and encouragement that helped me give my best,’ the director says. A great admirer of Mani Ratnam, he says, ‘I wish to continue doing films that are useful and productive for the society.’

With Dhruvah, Shruti Ramakrishnan, Sampath, Dharan, Panchu Subbu and John Vijay playing pivotal roles, the music for Aanmai Thavarael is by Mariya Manohar and has just three songs and they all form part of the story, adds Kulandai Velappan.
