Bipasha Basu is playing a hippie in her upcoming film 'Dum Maaro Dum', which she says is a stylist thriller with a realistic backdrop of drug menace in the country.
"Since the film deals with the menace of drugs, there is a lot of reality involved in it. But we have not treated 'Dum Maaro Dum' as a dark film. It is a very cool stylish thriller," Bipasha told PTI.
Set in Goa, 'Dum Maaro Dum' is about the drug underbelly of the country and shows how three stories (Bipasha Basu-Rana Daggubati, Prateik Babbar and Abhishek Bachchan) get intermingled with each other.
"At the end of the day, 'Dum Maaro Dum' couldn't be taken lightly either. The subject was pretty serious as the characters go through a lot of destruction and transformation. The issue is pretty dark," she added.
The actress, who was last seen with Abhishek Bachchan in 'Dhoom 2', plays Zoe, who despite being a fun-loving person battles her own secrets.
"Zoe depicts the fun element of Goa. In fact is the very crux of the city. She is someone who is a hippie, is fun loving, a romantic who believes in love and is also quite ambitious. Her life takes a turn for worse when something goes wrong that leads to an all around transformation."
"Everyone has a past. Zoe is no exception. There are two other stories from the past for Abhishek and Prateik. All of them come together to form the plot," she says. Despite her gruelling schedule, Bipasha says she had fun while shooting the film in Goa.
"Nothing can stop me from chilling out if I really wish to. A film's genre doesn't make any difference. I had fun even during 'Aakrosh' even though I was getting all beaten up onscreen," she said.
The actress will be seen alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Prateik Babbar and Rana Duggabatti in the film, which releases on April 22. The fast paced title track filmed on Deepika Padukone, is already making waves all around.
